The largest state forest in France stretches as far as the eye can see around Nogent-sur-Vernisson — an exceptional natural territory to explore all year round.
The Orléans Forest is the largest state forest in France. It spans three departments: Loiret, Cher and Nièvre. On the territory of Nogent-sur-Vernisson, it covers a large part of the municipal area.
Managed by the National Forestry Office (ONF), it welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year for hiking, cycling, mushroom picking or simply walking in nature.
The massif consists mainly of sessile oaks, Scots pines and birches. It harbours remarkable biodiversity: deer, wild boar, roe deer, badgers and exceptional birdlife.
Fires are strictly prohibited in state forests throughout the year. Exceptions may be granted in designated areas.
Dogs must be kept on a lead in wildlife quiet zones, especially during the breeding season.
Mushroom picking is permitted up to 5 kg per person per day, for personal use only.
