Nestled in the Gâtinais Orléanais, Nogent's geography is intimately linked to the Orléans Forest and the Vernisson river.
Nogent-sur-Vernisson is a commune in the Loiret department (45), in the Centre-Val de Loire region.
The Vernisson, a tributary of the Loing and thus of the Seine, runs through the commune from north to south. This valley-bottom river feeds several forest ponds, including the famous Étang du Puits.
The relief is gently undulating, characteristic of the Gâtinais plateau. The soil is mainly composed of Gâtinais sands and sandstone, favourable to the growth of Scots pines and oaks that make up most of the state forest.
